Progress Paintings for Sunrise Coffee

I don't know about you, but I love progress shots! Painting and drawing for me is like putting a puzzle together. You have jumbled ideas and images to organize, determine what steps to take first in assembling the the masterpiece through shapes, shades, and colors. I love seeing the transformation from scribbled doodle to completed work. I say complete, but it is never "completed". There will always something you can do better...for next time.

I have been working on a painting for display at Sunrise Coffee and it has taken me all month to do. Some of this is because it is simply time consuming to paint something this large, but I also work a full time job and have had commissions that i have come up along the way. This painting has seemed endless especially when I have so many other paintings and drawing that I would like to get to work on.

I wanted to share the progression and transformation. You can see the layers of color, but also how I slowly tweaked her facial features.

Thanks for letting me share the fun and magic!
I will keep you posted about more information regarding my solo show in April!

Upcoming Show: First Solo Show!

I'm proud to announce that I have been invited to have my own solo show in April at Blackbird Studios here in Las Vegas. I've been hard at work getting it together. Painting and drawing into the wee hours of the night and again when I wake up before dawn. I have only been given 3 months to put this whole thing together. . . so you know NO PRESSURE or anything! I have so many brilliant ideas and things I want to create and NO time to do it all. I'm nervous, excited, and completely stressed, but loving it all!

On top of that I have also been asked to have my work displayed at Sunrise Coffee for the months of February and March. This is a huge honor, because the coffee shop is owned by none other than Amy Sol's brother! Eek! Again. . . NO PRESSURE!

Th current theme I am working on stems from my recent Grimm art. I am developing my own fairytale utilizing the imagery that I am obsessed with lately (i.e. woodland creatures, bargeboards, female figures, and auto-biographical traits). Instead of trying to choose one aspect of who I am to develop a show around, I chose to combine all of it. I wish this show to be an amalgamation of the childhood innocence and hopeless romantic aspects, but also my dark and twisty cynical side. I am drawing inspiration Grimm fairytales, the Brother's Quay, and architectural designs.

Wish me luck and I hope you are able to stop by and check out my art! I'll keep you posted when I get more information. For sneak peeks into the work in progress check out my Tumblr at http://constantly-constance.tumblr.com

Thank you for your continued support and I look forward to sharing more with you soon!

Hint Mint Holiday Contest Results

There I was sitting at the airport, waiting to board my plane for home. When I decided to check my messages, as you do while waiting and waiting and waiting. Low and behold, I had a message informing me that I had won the daily Hint Mint contest. I was glowing! I was so excited that I felt I was flying even before boarding my plane! I called my family to let them know the exciting news and then did a couple happy dances before heading home! It was such an amazing feeling when I was able to share my story and successes with my family at dinner that night. Being able to see how the pride in my parents' faces was a priceless moment and one I will not soon forget.

What else did I win? Since I was day 22's winner of the Hint Mint holiday art contest. Hint Mint posted my art and social media links on their Facebook page which is great exposure. Each winner chosen receives a set of 3 MINI Audrey Kawasaki's Artist Series tin plates (3.5"x3.5" and unsigned). Very exciting!!!!

Thank you to Hint Mint for the opportunity to showcase so many amazing artists and their work!!! Thank you for giving me the opportunity to shine. Thank you for helping confirm that I do have the ability to compete with other amazing artists out there.

Thank you!
